Thoughts on Romans 12:1-2

Romans 12:1-2

"And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you.  Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable.  This is truly the way to worship him.  Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect."

Anyone else cringe a little when you read verse one, the part about giving your body as a living sacrifice?  If you’re like me, you assume whatever that ends up meaning, you’re going to hate it.  My mind immediately jumps to, “He’s going to send me to be a missionary in Africa!”  Our very own Weston and Michele have ended up in India!

I’m thankful for verse two.  It tells us that when we let God come in and take away our worldly thinking, we are going to love what God wants to do with us.  His will for our surrendered selves is good and pleasing (Thank you, God!) and perfect.

I’m also thankful that I have experienced this enough in my own life to keep trusting that when I am surrendered, living in God’s will, He gives me joy in the journey.

Can anyone else testify to the truth of this scripture?
